Hey Kids, Look at That Card Up Close!

August 6, 2017

I keep forgetting capitalization rules in titles. Is “that” supposed to be capitalized or not, or “at”? I used to have a bookmark for this.

‘”At” is a preposition so is not capitalized. Unless it is the first or last word of course. “That” is a subordinating conjunction so it is capitalized.  I had to look it up because I must be perfect. I also know I will forget this. I had no idea there was such a thing as a subordinating conjunction.

I was never taught grammar in school. Can you believe that, thirteen years of education plus a few college courses and I had to find out the basics on my own and even then it gets confusing. I often see that people who are good at languages know grammar well. I bought a book once about English grammar for students of Latin. When I was trying to learn Latin I used to get so confused because I’d mix up the grammar.

“Conjunction junction what’s your function, picking up words and phrases and clauses.”

A nod to Bob Dorough who wrote this song for Schoolhouse Rock on TV, and Jack Sheldon who sang it so well I’ve always remembered it.

No card just yet today because I am trying to work up an Okanagan Oracle colour montage in Pixelmator. This will be the ultimate test of functionality because I do a lot of card montages with added text.

I have another jigsaw to share though. Everybody groans, BUT the detail of the rather small artwork in the 72 Names Cards is amazing when seen on a 21.5-inch screen. You can’t see it here because it’s not full size, but seeing cards up close is very meaningful if you find a card puzzling. The easiest way to see it is to scan it in and let the computer light it from behind.

#33 – The 72 Names of God

Illuminating the dark corners

The first thing that struck me about this image was the open drawer on the tower.

When you find yourself saying “What did I do? or “Why is this happening to me?” then this card will help. Negative traits or shadows can emerge and express themselves, particularly when spiritual light enters your life. Darn those nasty dust motes that show up in sunlight!

Those ropes or lemniscates are so flexible, they can lasso the moon or bind you or help you pull out the crumbs in that drawer so you can clean it and put a new liner down. Old patterns, shoved in drawers pop out to bite you. Let them see the light and release them and yourself.

Easier said, but be aware that these old patterns can be let go of. It’s possible to clear them out and the light will fill the spaces left.

Waiting for Winter 72 Times

March 2, 2017

There are some rather oppressive looking clouds over the sea right now. Rain today and it’s still cold so I’m waiting for winter to go.  And waiting and waiting and waiting…

While contemplating this weather yesterday, I took a notion to buy a card deck that I’ve wanted for some time. Actually, I’ve wanted three of Orna Ben-Shoshan’s decks but I had to pick only one — oh no, not that! I picked the 72 Names Cards.

This was bought as a companion deck to Yehuda Berg’s book  The 72 Names of God which I’ve had for many years. It has needed a visual companion for an equally long time, so now it will have one.

I also have a book on Hebrew calligraphy so perhaps I’ll fire up my Pilot Parallel pen and do some calligraphy with these? I find it frustrating to be hampered by pain right now, but I am continuing the vegan eating plan and gradually feeling better. It will take months but I am confident that I’m giving my body the ability to repair itself.

We’ve had several walks along the sea front in the past two weeks, but today amid the wind and gloom, it is a day for dreaming of names and colour and the wisdom of millennia.
