Ace of Pentacles/Coins Across Decks

I saw in my statistics page that someone had come to my site searching for images of the Ace of Coins. I thought to myself that this might make an excellent study.

Danger, danger, hours later after searching through dozens of decks and scanning, adjusting, rotating and labelling in Photoshop, I’m a bit punchy. When you’re in a funk, nothing helps like a bit of sorting, categorization, and organization. This was more than a bit, but hey it made for a keenly interesting day.

Dealing mostly with the Rider-Waite model (here used in the Universal Waite deck) I decided that there were three kinds of imagery with this card: the classic “hand of God” approach; the figurative approach related to the theme like in the Golden Tarot; and the pattern and shape decorated or changed similar to a pip in transformation playing cards, like in this marvelous Ace of Pentacles in the Sun and Moon.

In this study I am ignoring the figurative approach, and looking more at the other two.

I don’t see too many people using the Fradella deck but it’s one of my favourites.

I’ve talked about that Universal Fantasy card before, it reminds me so much of an old brooch.

So that’s it, about 8 hours of work and 39 decks!

The Wheel of Pins and Needles

No, it isn’t the Wheel of Fortune, it’s the Four of Wands.

I laughed at this because the spokes reminded me of knitting needles. I placed an e-mail order for some knitting needles right before I drew this card. I have yarn for about five sweaters that I’ve had for some time. Originally they were supposed to be done on the knitting machine but I was having some trouble winding the yarn and waxing it so I gave up. I had done some swatches on the machine but I will rip them out and redo them by hand.

I didn’t have the right circular needles for teaching myself how to do a seamless sweater, and I needed some larger double-pointed needles for the sleeves. I place the order and she phoned me and is mailing them today so maybe by Friday they will arrive.

So, “completion of a life phase or the cycle positions you for a new beginning.” I will take this as positioning for a new beginning, and also the completion of a life phase because the first yarn I have was purchased in the 1990s. I was going to throw it out but thought I could still use it and I can. I did fair-isle sleeves on the machine and will re-purpose them for a pillow maybe, but the rest of the yarn was sitting here for 15 years.

When learning something, you don’t want to use the fancy yarn. Complete the phase!

“Tiddy Tidy” Says the Prophet of the Eternal

Daily Draw February 5th, 2012

My husband saw a small media shelf on sale and drove to a town to buy it for me yesterday. I fought my way into the den where I keep my card decks to try and clean up a bit and make room for this shelf which is going to allow me to reorganize my decks and books. I have had many of them sitting on the floor or stacked on a table so really want to fix that up, especially since I have so many playing cards now.

Normally I know exactly where every deck is and can put my hand on them immediately but lately I’ve been in an awful mess. I ran out of room for shelving the books that come with decks and I can’t find things, plus I worry about them getting stepped on or damaged on the floor.

This is the other side of the room. On that table are several playing cards and some decks in boxes. There is fabric and books all over the floor to the left which you can’t see, as well as another dollhouse and a triple bookcase. I don’t know how I’m going to organize all that. I’m starting with the books and decks and then taking it from there.

Here is the new shelf to the right, and I have six shelves to set in and fill. I’ve got decks doubled up and stacked and leaning against things on the white bookcase. Hopefully I can again showcase some of my nice boxes when I move things around.

I also downloaded and installed the NexusFont program and was able to delete 167 fonts off my system which should prevent Photoshop from having any more glitches and still allow me room to install my own fonts. Windows 7 would not delete them so I had to download a secondary font program. I had the program back them up so they aren’t lost entirely should I need one again.

I made a sign to put up with the saying from my draw yesterday. Unfortunately I messed up the application of the Contac paper and got a crease. I knew I should have bought a laminator when I had the money. I didn’t have enough Contac paper to redo it so it will have to stay as it is. A good one for the back of the door where I will see it regularly. Repeat that thought about health and tidiness and who knows where it will go?

I like the University Roman font. And without 167 extraneous fonts installed, I can actually find it in the drop-down list in Photoshop.

That brings me to today’s card from the Sun and Moon Tarot. I discovered that I had entered it in the database but I hadn’t scanned the deck cover or a sampling of cards so I had to do that today. Now the card database is all organized and up-to-date.

Meditation in the hermitage today. I’ll be in my room shelving and fiddling. The trident of Shiva represents past, present and future in this card and it reminds me of my tarot 10th anniversary again. Here I am with a nice collection that I am reorganizing during my anniversary. This card is also connected to Virgo which reminds me of my husband and his effort to purchase the new shelf.

This card in the Thoth deck is called The Prophet of the Eternal but also The Magus of the Voice of Power, and the voice of power reminds me of the above-mentioned equivalent quotation that I made a sign for.

Reciprocity in the A.M.

Daily Draw January 8th, 2012

It’s official, with the addition of the new playing card deck I have 360 decks of cards.

Years ago when I first started using tarot cards I remember saying on a mailing list that I couldn’t understand how people could buy so many decks. At the time I had five decks: never tell the Universe you don’t understand something. I have done a 360° turnabout, literally, so that I now DO understand.

This is the sort of card I like for a Sunday. Beautiful harmony and connection, “reciprocated love and being cherished.” The thought occurs that if I truthfully tell the Universe I don’t understand love, things will change and I will be sent understanding.

Sunday morning. A cherished time. Actually, I am all by myself with a cheery light on and light dawning outside, sipping a cool water and loving my cards.

A small moment of love.

In the Urgency of Now

Daily Draw December 18th, 2011

One day last week was my parent’s wedding anniversary—it would have been their 69th had my Mom lived. And today I am listening to the Smashing Pumpkins song 1979.

We were sure we’d never see an end to it all
And I don’t even care to shake these zipper blues
And we don’t know
Just where our bones will rest
To dust I guess
Forgotten and absorbed into the earth below

Time is just rolling along.

I put a dozen library books on hold or inter-library loan. I also filled out four forms to recommend books to the library to buy. They were about making art journals and drawing every day; they have nothing like that in the whole system.

When all else fails we have books and art to pull us up. The Root of the Powers of the Earth.

The street heats the urgency of now

The Crystal Jar with the Crystal Substance

Daily Draw November 23rd, 2011

The trees on this card remind me of a grotto-like lane near a local beach, a place so magical when you drive through it that I have always called it “Narnia.” The Kabbalistic symbol, the Hebrew letter Daleth, means “door” and is echoed in the portal of the trees.

It was her container that I saw today, the crystal container with the cross, which probably contains another crystal, salt, that is associated with this card in the Thoth deck. Salt crystals in a crystal jar, and I have been getting massive headaches lately, usually a sign of high blood pressure so I shall take this as a warning to contain my salt intake.

I also thought the moon she is sitting on looks like a swing, and yet there are no ropes holding it to the trees. She is suspended seemingly by something else, perhaps her intuition and imagination—another day for artwork for me. The bird is apparently a pigeon, a prophetic bird pointing me to listen to my inner guide.

Hold the salt, hold the blue lotus brush of creativity.

If I Make the Sand Castles Really Big, No One Can Find Me

Daily Draw November 12th, 2011

I like the Thoth-y look to this image. In the practical world, this is me taking my weaving pick-up sticks that are the wrong size back to the shop to exchange them for a different item. In my mind, this is a torturous day of having to leave the house and spend money I don’t want to spend, and go somewhere I don’t want to.

I am not a lover of shopping. I occasionally put in an online order for books or creative supplies, but it is not something I enjoy. I also don’t have the money to shop. My idea of spending big is to drop eighteen dollars, which might echo the limitations and boundaries in this card. The big jar is empty and I don’t want to go shopping.

I have to go though because I’m not wasting $17 on something that I will never use because it isn’t right. While there I am going to find some green yarn to knit my hippo. My hippo’s name is Willow so she has to be green. Plus I already have a hat for her and green wooden flowers.

Then hopefully I can escape!
