In My Seasonal Camouflage

According to Deborah Leigh’s system of reading playing cards, the 10 of diamonds is about money, but a neutral card, neither good nor bad.

I took one look at this Ptarmigan photograph and thought “That’s me, hiding in the foliage.” Our exterior home renovation is taking much longer than planned, and when we took the concrete steps out we found a glitch, so I’ve gone from feeling fairly positive about repairs and such to feeling overwhelmed, worried, and hiding. As well, the spouse pushed me into hours and hours (when I only wanted to do two hours at a time so I wouldn’t hurt myself) of painting wood trim with a brush and it’s set off my carpal tunnel, tendinitis, and pain and fatigue. He could care less and is simply ignoring me.

So, I’m hiding in plain site, camouflaged in a chair reading several mysteries. I can’t hold a pen and my typing is limited to a few minutes at a time. I can’t do anything but rest. Instead of carefully balancing what I can do to avoid nerve damage and pain, I’m knocked out of living altogether. Blah.

Of course, I know nothing about ptarmigans. This is the Rock Ptarmigan (Lagopus mutus), and is a female in her summer plumage. They are the only birds to turn white in the winter to blend in with the snow, and brown in the spring and summer to blend with foliage. They are a subfamily of the grouse family.

Hide from the unpaid bills little bird, read the book Smoke by Dan Vyleta when you finish the current book.

Incidentally, I could never remember how to spell the word “camouflage” until studying a card one day a few years ago, I needed to spell it quite a bit in my write-up and it cemented itself in my spelling mind.

So there you go, cards at the fore of education and intellectual growth again!

The Illusion of City Planning

I felt like fiddling with a playing card deck and a tarot deck. When I went to put back a previous deck I used I came across the Portable Fortitude Playing Cards and thought “That’s it!” I’ve been wanting to use the lovely Dreaming Way Tarot again for some time, so it went into the mix. Two excellent decks; cards from inspirational heaven in a sea of junk.

The Portable Fortitude deck was one I bought on Etsy, one of my fond memories of an outstanding artist and a black and white deck. There is another tarot deck (Animalis Os Fortuna Tarot) by an outstanding artist (Megan Weber) that I am saving up for and it is black and white. Alas, I have to wait until June or July to buy but that’s okay, I’ve wanted it since last summer, I suppose I can wait 2 or 3 months more.

That’s how you know the deck is right for you!!

10 OF DIAMONDS – Protection from city planning

I often get lost in Seven of Cups “up in the clouds” daydreaming. Many creative people do, the trick is to get your feet on the ground so you can accomplish something rather than just dream about all the wonderful things you want or can accomplish, or all the money you will make or the lottery you will win and the big castle you want to live in, or the snake waiting to bite you.

The 10 of Diamonds is a neutral card about money. I love this depiction, it’s spot-on isn’t it? City planners, like architects, artists, dreamers, writers, anybody creative, can go a bit crazy dreaming up impractical things. Here they’ve crowded out homes and the growth of plants, blocked the light, put a highway next to living space. Suffocating, noisy, and dark.

I need to get my weekly sketch done. I have preliminaries done but after going back to bed for four hours yesterday I felt like looking at cards and dreaming about art rather than doing art. A little nod from the crowded house on the playing card to edit my picture, keep to reality of space and time and injured hands.

Great cards.

Happy Sunday!

Alas for Madame Lenormand, She Was Suffocated Last Tuesday

Daily Draw May 5th, 2012

I was rather incensed to learn that there are cells of political correctness infusing the study of Lenormand decks. What a shame for those of us who have enjoyed our Lenormand decks in the quietude. This is why I don’t frequent forums any more, because although inspiring to learn of new systems and new decks on forums, such groups tend to drift toward a dogmatic rigidity after a time.

Only certain initiates can create their own Lenormand decks for instance, and there is One Correct System for study from one certain country and shouldn’t we all be using it? Well no actually.

I made my own Lenormand deck in September 2009 and have been using it happily ever since, not realizing how incorrect this was of me. How incorrect of me to use my skill with colour and composition to create something, and then use standard meanings with a dash of my own insight without consideration of it being from the correct country or person.

Gosh, I’m lucky to still be alive.

I decided to do a two-card draw from the generic playing card deck I drew titles on myself, using the system of Ana Cortez. Oh heavens, God forbid anyone should do that themselves without permission of the group and selected leaders of fashion….is this correct, can I do it? Has the committee passed the bylaw that allows such a thing?

Ignita, my old friend, keeps coming up for me. In this case my sense of outrage fueled a rather consuming fire in my chest. That sort of hunger can be dangerous which is why I usually go my own way and let others do the same. Opinion and outrage often morphs into bullying and ridicule.

However, I will keep the sense of self that Ignita brings me, because that’s a good quality for creative people. A sense of self is calm reason rather than the reigning correctness of the day. A sense of self enjoys what it enjoys, and creates what it creates because it chose to, not because some group said it was proper or correct. It goes on calmly enjoying what it enjoys despite the maelstrom of contrary dogma being bandied about.

Tendra is the night of the oblivious correctatronic mind. Oh yes, the suffocating vine of Correctatron is wending its way into the Lenormand world. Clutching the faithful to its bosom, demanding they conform and let only certain initiates create decks to study the certain system of certain enlightenment, certain their path is one of true certainty.

And to sum up, I am certain these cards look bloody good with a certain plaid background.
