Mystereum Awakens
Daily Draw February 4th, 2013
My arm is bothering me today, but I strapped on a cuff, grabbed my coloured pencils, cheapest sketchbook, and used my usual meditative sorting of cards and came up with this:
KING OF SWORDS
I limited myself to three colours close to colours on the card, and drew a circle and drew some shapes. My hand and arm are not up to anything fancy so I just did some hatching.
The King here is another figure that repeats across cards, although he is more of an outline on this card. I love the words “carmine red” and “aquamarine” of the coloured pencils. I feel that I’m going somewhere interesting with such words.
The minor arcana in this deck has much shorter write-ups and Jordan really gets to the essence of the card that way. He has some great ideas. On my sketchbook page I wrote down the things that hit me today. So, let me explore the differences between equanimity and equality.
Equanimity = comes from the Latin aequanimitas
aequus = even + animus = mind
Evenness of mind or temper.
Equality = comes from the Latin aequalis which comes from aequus = even
The state or quality of being equal. If you are equal you have the same abilities and rights, the same share and power.
If you are equal you can’t be more clever or more right than someone else. This King knows that. Knowing this, he can keep an even mind and be fair, all the good things involved in clarity.
The little circles at the top corners of the card appealed to me, so they came into my drawing as aquamarine bubble-like shapes escaping. Freed from linear patterns, they escape to think with equanimity.
All things being equal.

I have some arm/hand problems too, due to my work in the computer. =[ It really sucks. My right thumb and forefinger are hurting like hell today, grrr!
Anyway, what I actually wanted to say was – you drew that!? Dear God! It’s such a beautiful design! I love the shapes and the colors you chose,,, wow. Seriously! And I also like how every part has a meaning… thanks for sharing it!

My pain problems started back in the 1980s due to computer use, so I understand.
Thanks about the design, some of the shapes were based on those curves or shapes on the card. In looking at it again, I see a landscape of waves from which the bubbles float over the mountains and past the clouds in the sky, out to the solar system as they break through the atmosphere.
That break in the circle was a mistake, I didn’t trace around my circle completely and left an opening! I like to use things like that with a daily draw–you know, use what comes up.

Hey, this was what I meant. It’s great. The break is my favourite part. My first thought was of the broken ozone layer. And I love your strip of entangle

That should have been ‘zentangle’

It’s okay, I knew what you meant!
I drew another card for today but my hand and arthritic finger is killing me, so not sure what to do with it.

Really awesome intuitive art. Love your approach with this. Sorry to hear that you’re having some pain. I hope it doesn’t keep you from your art too much! Do you have any post explaining this deck in more depth?

I’m not sure I could explain the deck!
I think Jordan himself has the most information you will find on the deck if you read through some of his blog posts.
